Every once in a while you get something back from a third party grading company that just makes you scratch your head. Below I present to you a Brilliant Uncirculated 1940-D Jefferson Nickel. Not a particularly rare coin, with over 43 Million of them minted, and over 100,000 estimated to survive in Mint State according to PCGS Coin Facts.
Because this coin was so nice, I was really hoping to get it in an MS67 holder. The luster and slight tone make the coin very eye appealing. So I took the chance and sent it in.
The coin came back in a Details holder. Can you tell me the problem with this coin? I will give you a hint, it was not called out for being cleaned, artificially toned, or doctored.
